Project pat-a-kake -- Hi-Color-Icons for KDE 2.0
================================================

Be aware of the fact that these icons are not finished right now.
An improved set of icons based on these icons will be part of
KDE2.0. You will be able to choose between the old icon-set
(measuring 32x32 pixels, 40 colors) and the new one in KDE 2.0.

Please contact torsten@kde.org if you want to participate in
this project and:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WARNING: please read the following specs carefully if you dont
want to create your icons for your own desktop only
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Style-Guides for Hi-Color-Icons:
-------------------------------
1.) All icons have to measure 48x48 pixel, have 256 color and are
    saved as XPMs. The total size of the objects on these icons
    should measure 44 pixels in width or/and 44 pixels in height!

2.) We dont want to confuse/irritate the user, so:
    -----------------------------------------------
    All icons in 44x44 should resemble *exactly* the same pictures
    as the corresponding KDE 1.1-icons in 16x16 or 32x32 but using
    enhanced quality. That means that all objects that are
    displayed on the icon have almost the same perspective and
    colors as those with 32x32 and 16x16. You may add further
    details to the picture but someone who knows the icon for
    kppp 16x16 or 32x32 well should also be able to recognize the
    44x44 version as being the same icon but just in much Much
    MUCH better quality with much more details. e.g.

    If you want to create a completely different icon for any app,
    you have to make new versions in 16x16 and 32x32 pixels first.

3.) You may use all possible colors.
4.) All icons should have a sharp (i.e. black ) border to make
    the icons style-compatible to the 16x16-icons.
5.) But besides that the icons should have near-photo-quality.
6.) Icons from other projects (Windowmaker, Gnome, Windows...)
    are not allowed.
7.) If you use photos to create the icons remember: dont take
    any pictures from the web for that (copyright-issues and
    uniqueness).

look at the attached examples to find out what I mean ...

You can test your icons using KDE 1.1 this way:
-----------------------------------------------
1.) K-Button -> Settings -> Applications -> Panel
Choose Style: Large -> Apply
2.) find the old icon in your directory tree -- you will find
most of them in

/opt/kde/share/icons

replace the old icon by your new one (make a backup of the
replaced ones!!!) and click K-Button -> Panel -> Restart
