     Implementation in ACL2 of Well-Founded Polynomial Orderings

The code under this directory explains the ideas behind section 2 in
an abstract setting, hiding implementation details and properties
which are not detailed in the corresponding paper. It has been tested
under ACL2 2.6/GCL 2.4.

* *.acl2:

Package definitions (UPOL and NPOL) and certification commands.

* upol-1.lisp:

Unnormalized polynomials (UPOL package). An encapsulation of the ring
operations and properties, the normalization function and the semantic
equivalence. See [1] for implementation details.

* upol-2.lisp:

Unnormalized polynomials (UPOL package) in more detail. It explains
how the theorems |p + nf(q) = p + q| and |p * nf(q) = p * q| are used
to prove congruences. The proof of |p * nf(q) = p * q| did not appear
in our previous work on unnormalized polynomials [1]. It is highly
technical and it is not told here. Please, feel free to contact the
authors if you are interested.

* npol.lisp:

Normalized polynomials (NPOL package). It explains how the definitions
and the ring properties for unnormalized polynomials are translated to
a normalized setting.

Encapsulated events, with the exception of |p * nf(q) = p * q| and
their corresponding congruences, are developed in (event names may
have changed):
